Tony told a brilliant story during his keynote that really brought the concept of the Opportunity Antenna to life for our team and share a great example with us.

A salesperson nailed a car leasing deal with a customer. He asked great questions, listened, matched her needs, secured the deposit. Textbook. And he was pretty pleased with himself.

Tony agreed he’d done well… but he’d missed three golden opportunities hiding in the conversation:
  1. The customer had a husband who played golf
  2. She worked for a company with thousands of employees
  3. Many of those employees received company cars
All it took was one more question, and that salesperson later secured a leasing deal for 380 vehicles which equalled £23k in commission… from a single follow-up conversation.

Imagine applying that mindset in recruitment:

Ask yourself, if I were hiring this person, what would be most help to me?  Is it salary benchmarking, onboarding support, retention advice or process improvement? The more value you add, the harder you are to replace.
